The Dog Days

It's too hot. Also, an announcement.

It’s too hot today

Hot August Nights will Be Dorkless

If you were at our “Nation of Immigrants” trivia, then you already know that there will be no trivia in the month of August. I’ve got a bunch of things going on that month, including a big move and a medium move. So the hottest part of the summer there won’t be any trivia on the Calapooia patio - sad, I know. However, if you come to Millennial Memory Lane Trivia on the 22nd, I’ve got some goodies in store, including extra prizes and a Jukebox Money Drop to raise money for Jackson Street Youth Services (https://www.jacksonstreet.org/)!

Millennial Memory Lane - A Nostalgic Trivia Trip (7/22)

‘Member Nickelodeon, Emo, Nintendo 64, and more? Millennials remember. Let’s stroll down memory lane together because stuff sucks right now.

Let’s forget the suck for two hours, and raise a little money to prevent some of that suck. All through trivia I’ll be taking donations for Jackson Street Youth Services in exchange for song requests, skips, and more.

Fun Fact: The “Dog Days of Summer” are named for the rising of Sirius - the “Dog Star” - so named for how it appears to follow Orion across the night sky. Possibly my favorite thing I found on the Wikipedia page about The Dog Days is this description from the Ancient Greek poet Hesiod (a contemporary of Homer):

“But when the artichoke flowers, [~June] and the chirping grass-hopper sits in a tree and pours down his shrill song continually from under his wings in the season of wearisome heat, then goats are plumpest and wine sweetest; women are most wanton, but men are feeblest, because Sirius parches head and knees and the skin is dry through heat.”

You heard Hesiod - “Do It Lady!”
